This project was originally developed for an Imaging Graphics class at Cazenovia College. The primary objective of this particular project was to create an illustration based on an infamous monster from an urban legend. I decided to choose a more obscure creature for Americans, and that creature was the Japan-based Human Faced Dog, or Jinmenken as it is known in Japanese. Over the course of my time at Cazenovia, I would come back to this particular illustration time and again to make changes after it was originally graded. The image depicted here was the latest of these revisions, which I worked on during an Internship Preparation class. However, I still felt I could do even more with it, and after a meeting with my professor, I arrived at the ultimate solution for this project.
Between Thursday, September 10, 2020 and Friday, September 11, 2020, I worked on my final additions to this piece: a change in background lighting and an element of animation. Unsatisfied with how the night sky appeared in the earlier version of this piece, I decided to change it from an intense dark blue to a much lighter, but still dark shade of purple. The animated element I have added is a mysterious red liquid oozing from the Jinmenken’s mouth and dribbling onto the ground.
